Long-time show hold-outs Bina007 and Nadia give in the to the hype and binge-watch Game of Thrones seasons 5, 6 and 7 while pop-culture queen Michal/Inkasrain stands aside and laughs as their heads explode.

In the first spoiler-free section, we discuss the impact of no-watchers vs show-watchers on the fandom in general and VOK in particular, and whether it’s better to watch with a crowd or alone.

At 20 minutes in we enter our show-spoiler part of the show with a general discussion of seasons 5 to 7. At 26 mins in we get into Season 5 in depth – at 48m, Season 6 and at 1hr2m, Season 7. The after show begins at 1hr 20m and there’s some TWOW spoilery-stuff at 1hr24m.

VoK 430: Lannister Trials aka The Great Linear ASOIAF ReRead (Part 55)

In this episode we cover the start of Tyrion’s trial and the return of Jaime to King’s Landing, in Tyrion 9 and Jaime 7 from A Storm of Swords.  Your hosts are Bina007, Adam/DrownedSnow, Casey/Blue-Eyed-Queen, Glen/DagosRivers, Michal/Inkasrain, Nadia and Patrick/SerPatrickTheTall.

These events cover the period from the 7th January 300 AL to the 13th January. In particular, the hosts have been discussing the Redditor who invented the Linear Timeline’s decision to put the Tyrion 9 chapter before the Jaime chapter. The reason is that the Tyrion chapter starts a day before Jaime’s return to King’s Landing, even though the events go passed that by some way.

Another thing we’d like to say before we start is that the events in Jaime 7 are both controversial and sensitive within the fandom.  Listeners who may be triggered by a hopefully sensitive but nonetheless frank discussion of rape in fiction are advised to exercise self-care and judgment before listening.

This is a very special episode of our Linear re-read of George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire as we reach a) the half way point in out planned episodes and b) the narrative development that for many readers is the most scarring and significant plot twist of the series to date – The Red Wedding.

Accordingly, in this episode we’ve invited some of the VOK Curators – the people responsible for the admin and direction of VOK – to come together to discuss Arya 10, Cat 7 and Arya 11 from A Storm of Swords. They are Adam/DrownedSnow, Bina007, Katie/Lady Griffin, Michal/Inkasrain and Nadia.

This episode can be listened to in conjunction with the recent VOK 400 Full Castle Recording of The Red Wedding and post-FCR discussion by some of the curators who aren’t present on this episode.  It also follows the more broad ranging VoK 412 episode that explored all things Robb Stark – a key character who doesn’t have POV chapters and whose actions are often off-screen.
