Many of us are comfort-reading LOTR right now, so Bina007 decided to gather up the Vassals who hosted the LOTR re-read back in 2013 to discuss what would have happened if Faramir had attended the Council of Elrond rather than Boromir; if Sauron had never found the Ring; if Theoden hadn’t helped Gondor; what if Sauron won; and what if Saruman never went bad.

Thanks to Matt’s Air Con and Paul playing LOTR online this isn’t the cleanest of audio files but we thought The Listener would still like to hear OG Vassals Shellfish, Nadia and EastTexasDirewolf back on the airwaves. Welcome to the 600th episode of the Vassals of Kingsgrave! We begin with some chat from the VOK Curators about the status of the fandom and what will come next for VOK in the absence of a new book. Your hosts are Casey/Blue-Eyed-Queen; Hashtag Greg/ClaudiusTheFool; Adam/Drownedsnow; Zack/Alias; Bina007, the Podcast Bard/Jed O’White Hart and a guest appearance from Nadia.

At 41m, we move to the penultimate episode of the reread but the final chapter episode! We cover the final two linear timeline chapters of A Dance With Dragons – Dany 10 and Jon 13 – both taking place at an unspecified time in late July to – late August 300 AL. To do so we reunite some of the hosts of the first two episodes of the reread – published back in August 2015 – Thomas/FTWard; Brett/Whiteraven; Michael/Mordion; Matt/Varley and Bina007. And we also get two special songs from the Podcast Bard.

Long-time show hold-outs Bina007 and Nadia give in the to the hype and binge-watch Game of Thrones seasons 5, 6 and 7 while pop-culture queen Michal/Inkasrain stands aside and laughs as their heads explode.

In the first spoiler-free section, we discuss the impact of no-watchers vs show-watchers on the fandom in general and VOK in particular, and whether it’s better to watch with a crowd or alone.

At 20 minutes in we enter our show-spoiler part of the show with a general discussion of seasons 5 to 7. At 26 mins in we get into Season 5 in depth – at 48m, Season 6 and at 1hr2m, Season 7. The after show begins at 1hr 20m and there’s some TWOW spoilery-stuff at 1hr24m.
