Many of us are comfort-reading LOTR right now, so Bina007 decided to gather up the Vassals who hosted the LOTR re-read back in 2013 to discuss what would have happened if Faramir had attended the Council of Elrond rather than Boromir; if Sauron had never found the Ring; if Theoden hadn’t helped Gondor; what if Sauron won; and what if Saruman never went bad.
Thanks to Matt’s Air Con and Paul playing LOTR online this isn’t the cleanest of audio files but we thought The Listener would still like to hear OG Vassals Shellfish, Nadia and EastTexasDirewolf back on the airwaves. Quotidian hosts include Matt/Varley, Bina, Brett/Whiteraven, Adam/Drownedsnow and Paul/SerDinnerRoll.
Spoilers for all things Tolkien duh.

VoK’s very own Dr Blood begins a series of academic examinations through a Song of Ice and Fire. To start, we take a look at Durkheim’s Elementary Forms of Religious Life–specifically the excerpts where he discusses totemism.*
In addition to sigils and house symbolism/identity, we touch on everything from ethical questions (e.g. the “wolves” and “lions’ ravaging the Riverlands) to tinfoil (just how close are the Targs to dragons??), as well as more character-centric considerations (Dany, her silver, and her eggs; the Starks and their direwolves, etc.)…and anything else we can come up with! What would have happened if the Starks had found another Direwolf for Theon? Is Victarion Greyjoy a Raiders fan? Isn’t the Flayed Man such a bad brand that it would have been changed at some point?
Hosts: Sara (DrBlood), Adam (drownedsnow), Wilson (The Wandering Prophet), and Michael (Khal Wadege).
*Totemism: A system of belief in which humans are said to have kinship or a mystical relationship with a spirit-being, such as an animal… (Britannica.com)
Spoilers: This episode covers all published works in George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.

Please join The Ambulators (Greg (claudiusthefool), Matt (Varley), Matt (blu3arm0r), Dana (taindana), Dermot (tomred) and Thomas (FTWard) ) as we meander through the muddy streets of Deadwood.
Along the way we discuss and debate US Geography, the impact of S.C.U.B.A. diving on Western culture, what we should call “Kristen Bell”, why Bina is our Cornland expert and the proper technique for Tanker Wanking.
One cocksucker said “It’s been a super fun conversation but it’s going to be a shitty podcast to listen to…” but eventually we do manage to mention Season One of the HBO series Deadwood.

Join Bina007 as she vollops Varley and It Rhymes With Sleek / Jack about the most successful Soviet spy ever to work for the West – Oleg Gordievsky. Active in the 1970s and 1980s, Oleg was simultaneously briefing Reagan, Thatcher and Gorbachev and may have prevented all-out war during Abel Archer 83. Best of all, he was the subject of a thrilling exfiltration from Soviet Russia. The after show begins at 1hr 20m.
