VOK 771 – Agatha Christie Reread 32 – The Body In The Library

Bina does a quick minipod on what some see as the quintessential Miss Marple mystery published in 1942. A young ballroom dancer is found strangled in St Mary Mead, and Marple must save the reputation of her friend Colonel Bantry. We get an interesting depiction of British class prejudices and the seamier side of seaside life.

VOK 770 – Agatha Christie Reread 31 – N or M?

Bina reviews the Hercule Poirot mystery set in a dentist’s office that seems to be part of a political conspiracy. VoK 760: Yellowjackets Season 2

Meat’s back on the menu, girls!

Join Michal/inkasrain, Glen/dagos_rivers, Matt (it’s his real name), and Adam/drownedsnow in a free-wheeling review and discussion of Showtime’s delectable survivalist/cult drama, Yellowjackets. How does the second season compare to the groundbreaking first? Is the past or present timeline pulling ahead? Are the latest shocking developments satisfying, or leaving us, y’know, hungry for more? (Oh, and what’s up with the mystery episode 10?)

Plus in the after show, we muse on the state of the entertainment industry in 2023, as well as some like, video game stuff or whatever.

Music: “No Return” by Anna Waronker and Craig Wedren

10 Years

As of 3rd June 2023, it has now been 10 years since the first VoK episode was published.

This a podcast where we have no set theme, we have no set hosts and are a community based podcast which have allowed us to reach a total of 759 episodes so far (and trust me when I say at least another 20 that were never published and found themselves in the Darkling Plain).

Despite our origins involving A Song of Ice and Fire, Podcasts involving A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones or House of The Dragon represent less than 41 % of those 758 total episodes so we hope there are a mixture of Niche and mainstream episodes to cater to everyone.

Thanks to everyone out there that has listened to at least one episode of VoK, to those out there that enjoy a series of podcasts we have produced…and those that have followed VoK since the beginning.

Great thanks to the close to 100 contributors who have helped with steady (and sometimes hectic) rollout of published episodes over the 10 years…VoK will continue as long as we have people to continue to organise podcasts, edit them or lend their voice and opinions on a range of topics…even if no one listens (which it sometimes feels like no one does)

Here’s to start of another 10 years!

VoK 759: The Little Mermaid (2023)

Join Glen/Dagos_Rivers (Discord/Podcast of Ice and Fire Forums) and David (Davidhhh) as they discuss the 2023 live-action reimagining of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. We provide our reviews of the movie, provide a character discussion, highlight differences with the 1989 movie and discuss some of the casting controversies.

VOK 757 – Agatha Christie Reread 22 – Dumb Witness

Bina007 hosts a minipod to discuss the 1937 Hercules Poirot murder-mystery featuring the terrier Bob. This is a slightly awkward book, both in terms of an implausible solution and the choice of Hastings to narrate an extensive first third which is really told from the perspective of the victim. Nonetheless, this novel contains some razor-sharp characterisation and interesting commentary on the bigotry of the Victorian generation.

Spoiler free to the end music and spoiler full thereafter.

VOK 756 – Agatha Christie Reread 21 – Cards On The Table

Bina007 and Hannah discuss arguably one of the most under-rated Hercule Poirot novels, and the THIRD that Agatha Christie published in the prolific year of 1946. The set up is simple: four detectives, four suspects, one victim, no tricks. Who dunnnit?

Spoiler free to the end music and spoiler full thereafter.
